Bodega de Sur Murphys, CA During their visits to Spain and France in 2004 and 2005, Evelyn and Victor Reyes-Umana visited various wine regions, spending some significant time in La Mancha, where wines and dreams come together. They spent time talking to the winemakers and gathering information on the production of fine, elite wines. Then, in the spring of 2007, the opportunity arose to purchase a winery in Calaveras County. They decided to take the plunge. This was the perfect location. Not only was it near their summer home in Arnold, but Victor also realized that the Sierra foothills mimicked the grape growing regions of Chile, Argentina, and Spain. Villa Vallecito Vineyards Murphys, CA CEO/ Co-Owner G. Sanchez-Hagedorn is the daughter of migrant farm workers and played in the vineyards as a child. Villa Vallecito is a family business focused on the elegance and bold character of their wines. Sustainability is very important to Villa Vallecito Vineyards, so they fertilize using organic material from each harvest season: including leaves, skins, stems, and fruit that didn’t meet their standards for the winemaking process. Their vines are sorted three times prior to crush to remove any debris coming out of the vineyard, un-ripe or overripe berries. The result is big rich flavors, with beautiful colors.
